Carmel Mission Inn invites everyone to watch our video of the 2013 Sea Otter Classic. The original event started with 350 athletes and 150 spectators. Today more than 9,000 athletes and 55,000 fans attend the Sea Otter Classic, and the event is regarded as a, “celebration of cycling." Professional and amateur athletes alike make the annual pilgrimage to Sea Otter to participate in some of the sport’s most competitive and enduring events. Hundreds of pro cyclists, including national, world, and Olympic champions attend Sea Otter to race and meet with fans.

If you go into Google maps and search for Carmel Mission Inn and Carmel Mission you will get a little map showing you that the Carmel Mission is 4 minutes from the Inn. So, when you need to go sit in a cool Mediterranean courtyard under the bougainvillea and listen to the soothing sounds of the fountain you may jump in the car and a few minutes later you are in a little corner of heaven.

Most of the hotel guests come back from the Carmel Mission wanting to know the history of this religious center. To help answer the hundreds of questions we get every year we have built a new sub-section of the website... completely devoted to the mission. Here you can find details about the history of the mission, the artifacts found on the mission grounds, architectural details, and general information about the parish.

When you arrive at our micro website you will notice that we have removed the normal website headers and instead focus just on the mission, as we want to deliver an experience that equals the sense you will have visiting this unique spiritual center.

Very large comfortable bedroom

Ok, so this hotel/motel is not in Carmel-by-the-sea, but once you get over that fact and as long as you have a car, you can enjoy this 4 star property and the fact that you are not paying twice the price to be in a less modern and comfortable property in the seafront village. We loved our large room with king-size bed and lovely bed linen. The bathroom was excellent and also large. We did not make use of the heated outdoor pool and hot tub, but other people did.

The breakfast was included in our rate and was fantastic. There were at least 10 hot options to choose from including American breakfast, pancakes, omelets and French toast. Across the road from the hotel is a Starbucks, cvs, Safeway and small outdoor shopping mall, there are also a collection of shops behind the car park at the back of the property. Best place to eat in Carmel-by-the-sea for lunch is La Bicicyclette, and best place for dinner is Mission RANCH (Clint Eastwood's place). The Prime Rib is delicious, the cocktails are good and piano player and local singers make for a great night out.

Excellent Place to Stay

Staff efficient and friendly on arrival with good knowledge of local area and restaurants. Large contemporary quiet room, clean with good facilities, lovely bathroom. Very good complimentary breakfast, (only a tip required). Plenty of free parking on site. Good restaurants within walking distance. Short drive into Carmel. Definitely recommend.

Excellent bang for your buck in Carmel

We stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn Thanksgiving night through the weekend for a wedding. Upon check in we had to provide the ID for the person who's card held the room even though that wasn't the card that we were paying for the stay with. It wasn't a problem as we were both there however I've never been asked for this before and would have been quite put out had someone reserved the room and not been with us at check in.

The room was clean. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and well appointed, it even offered bathrobes. The grounds are overflowing with beautiful flowers which gives it a wonderful feel, not like a cookie cutter hotel. The pool was nice and there was a lovely fire pit in the courtyard that provided a nice place to gather and stay warm once the sun went down. Right off Hwy 1 and 5 mins into downtown Carmel and the beach. I slept well and would gladly go back. For the price you can't beat this in Carmel.

Great Winter Getaway

My fiancé and I took our infant on his first road trip - a winter getaway to Carmel. What a memorable and special time we had in the gorgeous Carmel Mission Inn! The room was spotless, beautifully appointed, comfortable and just totally wonderful - especially the patio which overlooked the pool area. A small refrigerator was provided, which was so helpful, in keeping bottles and baby food chilled until the baby was ready for them.

Surprisingly (or not, this is the Central Coast after all), the weather in late November was gorgeous and our baby enjoyed his first pool experience (using a swim diaper, of course), which we captured with our camcorder. The pool was beautiful and the staff thoughtfully provides a wicker trunk filled with clean, fluffy towels for easy access for guests. This hotel was super easy to find off Highway 101, and it is literally just off of Highway 1, easy access to explore Carmel - and Monterey. We (and a family we met at the hotel's pool) visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium, making our winter getaway a completely awesome experience.

I highly recommend this hotel for awesome staff - courteous and helpful with perfect follow-through, great food (room service rocks!), easy access from two roadways and a beautiful, modern hotel. We hope to stay again in the near future! See you soon, Carmel Mission Inn!

Fabulous Experience, Highly Recommend

The check-in process was fast and smooth. The desk clerk was polite and informative. Our room was large and brightly decorated. The heat system was quiet and worked great. There was a large bench on one end of the room which was a wonderful space for our belongings. Especially for a family of four. The beds and pillows were clean and comfortable and all the furniture was updated. Regarding the location, as long as you are aware that it is not in the downtown area, then there will be no surprises. We were very pleased with the location and with the amount of money we saved by not staying in town. The drive was less than 5 minutes and we had no trouble finding parking when we went to dinner and shopping in town. Additionally, one purpose of our visit was to hike in Point Lobos State Reserve (which was incredible) and this property is very close to the reserve. This is an incredible value and we would stay here again.

The Sea Otter Classic is the world’s premier cycling festival that is held annually on the Monterey Peninsula. Unlike other bicycling events, the Sea Otter Classic is “a celebration of cycling” where biking enthusiasts of all ages and abilities come together to revel in all things bicycle. While the event is primarily billed as a festival, there are plenty of races to be had, ranging from mountain and road bike races to cyclocross races. Most races take place at Laguna Seca, but some take place on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property, specifically Fort Ord National Monument.

The Sea Otter Classic started in 1991 when co-founders Frank Yohannan and Lou Rudolph were told by a Monterey bike shop owner that they should put on a mountain bike race; this led to the duo hosting the Laguna Seca Challenge on April 6th and 7th of that year. In 1993, the Laguna Seca Challenge was renamed the Sea Otter Classic and the rest is history. Today, the event hosts over 9,000 athletes both professional and amateur and 55,000 fans. It is cycling’s North American season opener and is the largest consumer bike exposition in North America. Beyond the myriad of races, the Sea Otter Classic offers an international food court, entertainment, bike demos, stunt shows, and carnival activities for children, definitely a far cry from its humble beginnings. The Sea Otter Classic kicks off on Thursday, April 18, 2013 and goes until Sunday, April 21, 2013, and is hosted primarily at Laguna Seca. Festival hours are from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day except for Sunday where the festival closes at 4:00pm. For a more detailed schedule, click here.

Lovely hotel, with very nice rooms, large clean bathrooms, and great location. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi isn't great, so if you don't have 3G, you may have to go to the lobby to get service . We had a pool side room on the 3rd floor with a huge porch. This place was a real find.
