To say that the Central Coast of California had a wet and wild 2016 & 2017 year of weather might be the understatement of the year! Having played golf courses all over the world, many people have asked me what my favorite place to play is. In a simple answer, Pebble Beach is always first on my list. The problem with Pebble Beach is that it cost about $500.00 to play the course. I would highly recommend that every golfer do it one time. If you don’t have the financial resources, there are other options that are much more affordable in that area.
I have lived in the Carmel area for ten years, and I have to say that I had never been to the Carmel Mission. After hearing that Pope Francis will be canonizing Father Junipero Serra, I thought to myself maybe now is a good time to go. The Carmel Mission Basilica is just a three minute door-to-door drive from the Carmel Mission Inn.
When I come to Carmel one of my favorite pastimes is to walk the streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea in evening and enjoy warm lights of the shops and restaurants … without streetlights. Occasionally this little town surprises me with either its unique sense of architecture or at times its art. For example, just down the street from La Bicyclette and in the courtyard of the Cypress Inn you will find a fascinating piece of street art painted by Thierry Guetta. Here is Charlie Chaplin floating in a giant pink heart. Not exactly what I expect to see in Carmel-by-the-Sea, but still a delight.
