Along the craggy Northern California coast, there’s a stretch of rocky peninsula that jets out into the cool blue of the Pacific ocean. It’s here you’ll find unforgiving waves crashing upon a shoreline with it’s own salty secrets.
Having played golf courses all over the world, many people have asked me what my favorite place to play is. In a simple answer, Pebble Beach is always first on my list. The problem with Pebble Beach is that it cost about $500.00 to play the course. I would highly recommend that every golfer do it one time. If you don’t have the financial resources, there are other options that are much more affordable in that area.
For over a hundred and sixty years, “the shack” has stood the test of time against the elements. This shack, now known as the Whalers Cabin, overlooks Whalers Cove and Carmel Bay in the Point Lobos State Reserve. The Whalers Cabin survived the rise and fall of the whaling industry and has been preserved as a cultural museum.
Imagine swimming into a forest of giant kelp, feeling the warm sunshine on your back and the cold waters all around you. Point Lobos State Marine Reserve provides a chance for divers to explore wonders of the Pacific Ocean. Located to the south of Carmel by-the-Sea, Point Lobos is located on the north end of the Big Sur coastline. It is a less than ten minute drive from the Carmel Mission Inn. Point Lobos is widely considered California’s best dive spot due to the rich marine life, clear water and interesting topography.
Point Lobos State Reserve is a hidden gem along the California Coast. Point Lobos can sometimes be overshadowed by the popularity of Big Sur, which is just a few miles further south along Highway 1. Boasting a rich wildlife and beautiful landscape, Point Lobos is an excellent destination for hiking.
