Carmel Mission is home to several museums including the Downie Museum established to honor the restoration of Carmel Mission by Harry Downie, the Mora gallery, that contains a monument in remembrance of Father Serra, the Munras Museum of precious artifacts from five generations of the Prominent Monterey Family Munras-Manzanelli, and the Convento museum in honor of the Mission’s founder, Juniperro Serra who is buried at the mission.
If you visit this precious landmark, you’ll enjoy walking through the beautiful courtyards colored with brilliant flowers and you’ll get to see where Father Junipero Serra lived and worked for the majority of his life. Carmel Mission offers public adult tours, self-guided tours, and school tours. The mission is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday from 10:30am to 5:00pm.
Even though this California mission is over 200 years old, its history continues to evolve as it continues to remain part of our nation’s history.
