San Carlos Borroméo de Carmelo Mission

The San Carlos Borroméo de Carmelo Mission, otherwise known as the Carmel Mission, is one of the oldest Spanish Missions in California. It was founded in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra who is buried on the site. The Carmel Mission has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service and is an active Roman Catholic Church, holding mass on a daily basis. In addition to mass, the Mission hosts weddings, art and cultural events, and numerous other Carmel community events.

The Carmel Mission serves as a museum preserving and displaying the cultural heritage of the Mission and of the Monterey Peninsula. We hope you will enjoy our video of this historic landmark and plan a visit to this American treasure. When planning a visit to the Carmel Mission we hope you will stay at the Carmel Mission Inn, located just 6 blocks or a short 12 minute walk from the Mission.
